Robert Macdonald

Robert Macdonald

Executive Director

In January 2026, Robert Macdonald was named the executive director for the SC State Housing Finance & Development Authority (SC Housing), where he provides guidance for the agency as a forward-looking, agile institution. In this role, Macdonald leverages his extensive background in finance and state government, ensuring SC Housing remains an industrious and innovative leader in affordable housing development across the state.

In July 2024, Macdonald was named the chief of staff at SC Housing, where he oversaw the agency’s finance, programs and information technology. Macdonald is well-renowned within the world of finance, with a resume that illustrates a strong history of developing, implementing and achieving strategic goals through day-to-day and long-term management.

Prior to joining SC Housing, Macdonald served as the director of the Debt Management Division at the South Carolina Treasurer’s Office, where he oversaw the management and issuance of bonded debt for the state and its agencies. Macdonald has more than 25 years of accounting-related experience in both public accounting and the private sector.

Macdonald is a native South Carolinian and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Government Finance Officer.
